The inherent Civic nature of the building type helped to promote the design of the Duvall Branch library. Located within “Old Town” Duvall, situated at the northeast corner of the Main Street and NE Stephens Street, the new 8,000 SF library showcases the extraordinary importance of the structure to the citizens of Duvall. The design highlights the function of the interior while accentuating the entrance and responding to the natural topography of the site. By achieving a LEED certification, the City of Duvall hopes to illustrate to the citizens the significant benefits in energy efficiency building design.
The new library will be a two story structure, with library service areas on the ground floor and mechanical systems and electrical closets on the upper floor. At the interior of the structure, we have located the active programming elements parallel to the major window fenestration. This will allow pedestrians walking outside of the building to have a strong visual connection with lively programming elements, such as “Cyber Bar,” computer stations, self-check stations, and the energetic activities contained in the Children’s Area.
