OAK LODGE LIBRARY
JA is working with long-time collaborator Opsis Architecture, helping Clackamas County provide a new community center and library for this Portland suburb. Numerous design solutions were explored with input from the community, including combined library and community center facilities and separate buildings that shared a civic campus. The preferred project program, which will kick off construction in August 2023, includes a separate 15,300 SF library building directly adjacent to the historic Concord School, which will be renovated to house the new community center program.
The new library will include gallery spaces for rotating art exhibits. Dozens of felt pieces reminiscent of leaves are suspended above the children’s area to serve as a unique acoustical “cloud” as well as wayfinding beacon for the library’s littlest patrons.
Public outreach for this project began in 2019 and the project is using a CM/GC delivery model, with expected construction to start in the fall of 2023.
