Rosehill, a sustainable, cottage style development proposed in Redmond’s Grass Lawn neighborhood, presents a new model for housing developments on how to be environmentally sensitive and encourage community. Rosehill is one of the city’s first projects under Redmond’s Innovative Housing Demonstration program.
In collaboration with
YS-Development, the proposed Rosehill project will feature nine contemporary Northwest-style homes and a community building situated to encourage interaction between residents while retaining much of the natural wooded setting. Instead of driveways for each individual home, residents share an underground parking garage that is accessed by the community building. Since vehicles aren’t traveling between the homes, the development is very pedestrian-oriented and provides a maximum amount of outdoor space to be enjoyed by residents.
While the average Redmond home is near 3,300 SF, the Rosehill homes are smaller, ranging from 1,600 to 2,500 SF. They will be Built Green™, utilizing sustainable strategies such as energy efficient heating and cooling, water-conserving fixtures and sustainable building materials. In addition to maintaining most of the natural vegetation, the site will use an innovative stormwater management
system, and incorporate native and
drought-tolerant planting.
