Jen grew up in a Pacific Northwest farming town, so a connection to the environment has always been a part of her life. Over time her love of the landscape extended to the utilitarian (and often forgotten) farm buildings within it. After earning a BA in English at the University of Washington, Jen attended New York University in London. There she earned an MA in Historic and Sustainable Architecture and pursued her interest in rural working buildings, writing her thesis on their increasingly tenuous connection to the modern landscape. This intense graduate study of historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and sustainability led Jen deeper into her passion for the built environment, and she returned to the University of Washington where she is pursuing her Master of Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture degrees.
When she’s not studying, Jen can often be found back in her hometown, going on long hikes or taking the family dog to the beach.
