Michael grew up exploring the Sawtooths of Idaho and the Cascades of Oregon. Prior to receiving his Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Oregon, he studied sculpture and animation in Portland. He learned traditional watercolor painting and landscape architecture while living in a 14th century Buddhist monastery in Japan, and once owned an interactive lighting design-build business. Michael is a licensed architect in Oregon and Washington. He has designed many large-scale projects in China, as well as contributed to public-sector projects in Oregon including education, recreation, and healthcare design. He is a Project Architect on various JA projects in Seattle. Nature, movement, color, and light all play a lyrical dimension in his work. Outside of the office, you'll often find Michael trail running or at a music venue.
