Pebble
Inspired by the rocky shores of Edmonds, this sculptural installation takes the form of a sea-smoothed pebble, creating a child-scaled shelter nestled within the larger library. Designed to invite imaginative play and quiet discovery, the piece supports multiple modes of engagement active, social, and reflective allowing children to shape their own experience each time they visit.
Children can climb into the opening for peek-a-boo moments or retreat inside for calm, focused reading. The installation balances playfulness with refuge, serving as both a landmark and a hideaway
.
A soft, sculpted landscape wraps around the form, offering places to climb, perch, or simply explore.
By leveraging long-standing relationships with local fabricators and completing design and documentation in-house, the team delivered the installation within the original construction budget.
