Edmonds Library
When a broken irrigation pipe on the library’s green roof caused catastrophic flooding, the Edmonds Library was forced to close unexpectedly. Sno-Isle Libraries turned this setback into an opportunity, reimagining the entire facility with updated systems, finishes, and furnishings. Within the same footprint, the library has been completely transformed: a serene palette of water-inspired neutrals, infused with light, color, and comfort, celebrates its Puget Sound setting.
A gallery wall welcomes patrons with rotating artwork by local artists.

A new community room with operable glass doors opens to the library for large events or closes for storytime, book clubs, and small-group meetings.
Upgraded technology and flexible sit-to-stand desks support equitable access to information and make the library’s resources more usable for all patrons.
Diverse seating, tables, and furnishings accommodate a wide range of ages, abilities, and sensory needs, creating an environment that feels welcoming to everyone.
The redesigned children’s area transforms learning through play. Drawing on JA’s experience in early childhood environments and custom fabrication, the team created a sculptural centerpiece that encourages curiosity, movement, and discovery, turning the space into a dynamic landscape for young learners.
Inspired by the rocky shores of Edmonds, this sculptural installation evokes a sea-smoothed pebble and provides a child-sized refuge within the larger library. Designed for open-ended play, children can climb over it, peek through it, or curl up inside for a quiet read. A surrounding landscape of soft, sculpted forms invites climbing, sitting, and imaginative exploration.
