REDMOND SENIOR + COMMUNITY CENTER
Replacing an older facility that was shuttered due to structural issues, the new Redmond Senior & Community Center welcomes residents of all demographics, but with a special focus on meeting the needs of the community’s elders. The design team gathered valuable input from thousands of seniors and community members through creative outreach campaigns during the COVID-19 pandemic. The design prioritizes the goals of building community across ages and cultures, timeless and long-lasting design, strengthening connections to their city, and sustainability.
The building is divided into two wings, with the north wing focused on seniors and community, including a large room with a stage for events and a dining and events terrace. The south wing focuses on recreation and wellness, with basketball courts on the first floor and a walking track on the second. Additionally, the design retains the popular pickleball courts already on site.
Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, the building includes all-electric energy sources to minimize greenhouse gases, incorporates cross-laminated timber construction, and is designed to use solar panels while preserving existing/significant trees on site. A green roof and vegetable garden also contribute to the building’s sustainability.
