Uplake House

Inspired by the client’s vision of a French farmhouse, the design evolved as a modern rustic retreat, featuring a shallow, asymmetrical gable roof supported by exposed heavy timber structure. Stone walls on the exterior and interior ground the house on its site and contrast with large areas of glazing facing the lake and mountain views.

The thoughtful siting of all structures captures the stunning views and preserves surrounding trees and rock outcroppings. The guest house is placed downhill from the main house and partially bermed into the hillside

Besides a sensitive site plan, other sustainable features include the use of C-crete, a concrete with an almost zero carbon footprint, hemp insulation, and highly efficient windows. When complete, the house will approach net-zero energy consumption.
