Lake Chelan Retreat

When Cathy Li found the site above Lake Chelan in the Cascade Mountains she fell in love. The site was not an easy one, but the surrounding vineyards and the rugged mountain lake below were enticing. Cathy purchased the property on behalf of her extended family and started the search for an architect. She found the team at Johnston Architects. Ray and Mary Johnston, founders of the firm, had extensive experience building in extreme environments ranging from high mountain sites to ocean and lake front locations. They were eager to assist the Li family in pursuit of a wonderful new family retreat.

Cathy’s goal was to host her extended family at this amazing location. While the lake provided ample recreation opportunities, it was 80 feet below the arrival point of the site. The house would need to take full advantage of the spectacular views, connect physically and visually to the lake and at the same time provide recreation right out the living room doors.

Chelan Lake House is a refuge from the busy vacation environment of the City of Chelan, a pavilion within the wonderful wine country of Washington State and a deep connection between cozy and comfortable interior spaces and spectacular surroundings.
