Coherence

Working with frequent collaborators at Dark | Light, designers developed a permanent, dynamic art installation for the lighting design firm’s Seattle office. Incorporating concepts of lighting science and perspective, the piece wraps the walls and ceiling with recycled PET acoustic panels lit by programmable LED lights. Perforated patterns illustrate light waves that are either coherent or in interference. The pinpoints of light align to create an image as viewers enter the space, but as they walk through it the patterns skew and lose coherence. The piece connects optics, light, and perspective while providing a unique visual identity to the firm’s studio entrance.
